Kenia Cueto

Vanguard University recognizes and embraces diversity, and is dedicated to making sure that ethnic minorities have a voice, and that their unique challenges do not go unnoticed.  Below is a letter from Kenia Cueto, an education counselor at Vanguard’s School for Professional Studies. Kenia will be posting weekly here on the blog, with the specific goal of building an interactive audience devoted entirely to diversity issues within education. She hopes to generate discussion on a wide variety of topics, learning from you just as you learn from her.

Dear Diversity Devotees,

My passion in education, cultures and humanity has led me to place my focus on diverse topics within education, and though I have learned much, I remain eager to learn more. I want to initiate dialogue from my readers (devotees) through my blogs, video and article postings. Please feel free to share your experiences, comments or questions with me.

The word diversity is broadly used within the context of ethnicity and race to define different facets of who we are and the roles we play within our society. It is used to describe the cause and effects of specific situations based on our differences. Diversity was highlighted during President Obama’s inauguration and is a topic of interest during the coming presidential debates and election. More importantly, diversity is a culminating effect gaining momentum within education that can’t be ignored.

We are a country with a pallet of multiple hues required to paint in a harmonious manner in order to create a work of art worthy of attention and respect. All colors are crucial within our masterpiece. With this said, I will bring diversity topics of all colors to my canvas with a global perspective on religious, private and secular education,  Early Childhood Education,  Adult Education, Women and Latinos Issues in education. I look forward to hearing from you and enhancing our global perspective within this arena.

Sincerely,

Kenia Cueto

So tune in on Wednesdays, readers, to hear more from Kenia on all things diversity – and put on your “sharing shoes” because we want to hear from you.
